Oktoberfest Test

After reflection on the material covered and consultation with the Oracle at Delphi, it has been determined that our first test will be postponed until Friday, October 9 in order to include the vital Roman chapter. The test will draw from all material covered to this point in the course, but the specific artworks from which multiple choice and essay questions will be drawn are included in the slides below. Other questions/essays may be related more with chronology, geography, media, and historical context.

Gods In Color

The attached article (link below) on painted statuary by Susanne Ebbinghaus is an excellent description of how color may well have been used in ancient Greek art. Read the article and write a short reponse (1 - 2 paragraphs) explaining whether or not you agree with the theory put forward about ancient statues. Do you feel that ancient Greek statuary was once covered in brightly colored patterns and schemes? What evidence in the article supports your position (pro or con).
